Overview
There is a point on the journey to Bwindi when the road begins to climb. The landscape changes. The hills become greener. Farms cover the slopes. Small villages appear between valleys. And somewhere beyond those hills is a forest that has survived for thousands of years. That is where you are going. Not simply to see gorillas, but to enter their world. The following day, you walk into Bwindi with a ranger, following a trail through dense vegetation until the forest gives you what you came for: a mountain gorilla family living on its own terms. Later, you meet Batwa community members and hear another side of the forest’s story one about people, traditional knowledge, displacement, adaptation and a continuing connection with Bwindi. This is a journey about wildlife and people sharing the story of one extraordinary forest.
